Why use card limits for budget management?

By using a virtual card for each ad campaign with dedicated card limits, agencies gain efficient, scalable control over their budgets, minimizing risk and reducing manual oversight. The key benefits of card limits are:

  • No overspending: Card limits set a maximum spend per card, ensuring each campaign remains within its designated budget and helping agencies avoid budget overruns.

  • Budget control: Agencies can adjust spending limits instantly, maintaining tight control over active budgets.

  • Budget tracking: Setting limits on each card automates part of the budget management process, reducing the need for manual tracking and simplifying financial oversight.

How to set spending limits for each virtual card

While issuing a new card you can set different types of limits:

  • Limit frequency: Defines the total amount that can be spent in a given calendar month, quarter, year. Another option is the total limit that can be used over any period of time while the card is active and will not renew automatically.

  • Card limit: Is assigned by admins and/or owners and represents only the availability limit of your credit card.

  • Transaction limit: Defines the maximum amount that can be spent with a card per single transaction.

The limits can be adjusted at any point in time:

  1. Navigate to the Cards page

  2. Select a card and click Change limits

  3. Change the limits for your card and click Confirm

The changes are effective immediately.

Card limits enable automated budget alerts

Aligning card limits with each customer’s budget enables automated email alerts that help you monitor spending proactively, ensuring campaigns without interruptions.

  • Personal Card Limit Warnings: Receive an email notification when a card nears its limit. This alert gives you time to adjust or top up the budget to avoid blocked transactions.

  • Team Budget Warnings: An email is sent when a team’s spending is close to its budgeted limit. This feature is particularly useful for managing a customer’s budget across multiple advertising channels, helping you stay within the client’s overall budget by adjusting spending as needed.

  • Organization Credit Limit Warning: Get notified by email when your organization reaches 80% of its total credit limit, providing time to make necessary adjustments and avoid hitting the cap.

These alerts simplify budget oversight, ensuring effective financial control across cards, teams, and organization-wide limits.
